You are cordially invited to the third year of Lighthouse Explorers’ group trips… for which we now have the first date and location!
The first trip of 2026 will be visiting Spurn Point Lighthouse, so if you live near Hull the odds are in your favour. This trip was meant to take place last year, but storms blew away our chances. The lighthouse is on a peninsula which will require a few hours of hiking, so stormy weather might have resulted in us returning with a few less attendees than we started with.

📅 Saturday, Apr 4, 2026 from 12 pm to 4:30 pm
📍 Meeting at the Spurn Discovery Centre
The lighthouses we will see were built to protect mariners from the treacherous Spurn Point: a constantly moving sand and shingle spit at the mouth of the Humber Estuary. The spit is home to both a High and Low lighthouse, discontinued in 1985 and 1895 respectively, with both lighthouses representing centuries of attempts to protect mariners from this deceptively dangerous area. Hopefully all of us remain firmly on dry land!
I aim to spread out these lighthouse events and give everyone a chance to come along. Ultimately, if this event isn’t near you, please don’t despair. There will hopefully be another closer to you at some point. (I am unfortunately limited by my inability to teleport.) This is a map of our lovely group trips so far, which took place across 2024 and 2025:
This map shows the locations of all of our 2024-25 group trips across England and Wales.
Apologies for the delay in announcing these events. Last year I was able to announce the full schedule in January, but this year there are a few more unknown factors. Namely, the ‘Travelling Pharology Archive’, which will hopefully be up and running by May. This archive will travel to different lighthouses and maritime museums, telling stories of the people behind the lighthouses.
I won’t say too much on that now, but keep an eye out! I will be sharing more about that project shortly…
Thank you for reading, and hopefully I see some of you in Hull in a few weeks.
